  • Most days for the last three years, the 22-year-old French New Zealand singer-songwriter Max Allais has uploaded a calming video of himself singing and playing acoustic guitar online. By staying consistent, doing the work, and speaking from a place of honesty, he’s connected with an audience of 3.3 million on TikTok and 860K on Instagram. Everyone deserves a chance to live their dreams, but it’s not every day that you see someone on the cusp of global success grasping the opportunities in front of them with both hands.

Born in Nice and raised at the bottom of the globe in Auckland, Allais grew up in a family that emphasised music, sports and a love of travel and the outdoors. Although he had a few guitar and piano lessons as a child, he didn’t consider taking music seriously until he returned to France at age eighteen to study business at university. That year, his grandfather purchased him a guitar to play outside of lectures. After he’d refreshed himself on a few chords, Allais posted a video of himself singing and playing guitar with his hoody pulled down over his face. Almost overnight, as he watched the play count, he realised something special was happening. “I always had a good relationship with music, but I never thought it would become such a big part of my life so quickly,” he said.

Max headed to Los Angeles the following year to continue his business studies. There, he began to participate in songwriting sessions in Hollywood. Within a week, he’d met Ludacris and Shawn Mendes and could see a real future for himself. “It was a surreal feeling, but it was cool,” he said. Since then, Allais has spent stints in Singapore, London, Bournemouth, and Sydney while working with various songwriters and producers, including Red Triangle, Xanu, Phil Cook and Ryan Mack. He’s also scored two one-million-plus play songs on Spotify, ‘Happy Now’ and ‘Come Home’, and is currently promoting his anthemic third single ‘Lost In Love’.

Raised on The Beatles, ABBA, U2, and The Rolling Stones, Max Allais’s music combines a love of the pop greats' traditions with a desire to make his mark by telling his own stories. Whether singing about romance, familial relationships, or the passage of time, he writes from experiences. Having cultivated a cult audience by sharing his truths with the hushed intimacy of a beachside campfire singalong, he now dreams of taking that close-knit sense of connection to stadium-sized audiences around the world.
